Unraveling the mystery of Vivian Maier
As part of the Mois du Doc documentary festival, the media library hosts a screening of "Finding Vivian Maier", directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel (run time: 1h24).
The documentary explores the extraordinary story of a mysterious stranger now recognized as one of the 20th century's foremost street photographers. Born in New York to a French mother and later based in Chicago, Vivian Maier captured over 100,000 photographs on her Rolleiflex without ever displaying them, working as an eccentric nanny her entire life to pursue her art freely.
Hidden in a storage locker, her negatives were discovered purely by chance in 2007 by John Maloof, who has since brought her visionary eye and remarkable body of work to international acclaim.
